Arimatsu Shibori Yukata Panel
A yukata is a cotton kimono, sewn in panels. This panel has white spiderweb (kumo) shibori with an indigo-blue-dyed background. The cotton is fine and the fabric is woven in balanced plain weave. The resulting fabric is light-weight with a good drape. It is in very good condition. The ends of the panels are unfinished and slightly frayed. One side of the panel is a selvedge edge and the other side appears to have been cut and has a crude hem. This panel could be used as decorative accent fabric for interiors and clothing.
Arimatsu is a town in japan that has been recognized as the center of shibori or tie-dyeing for 400 years. It was often depicted in ukiyoe prints by woodblock artists Hokusai and Hiroshige.
