Citroen and Olive Banded Wild Silk Scarf
Woven in a traditional village pattern, this naturally-dyed scarf has alternating olive and citroen-yellow weft bands of approximately 1 1/2″. The scarf ends are bordered with three narrow deep rust-colored stripes of 3/8″ each. It is very light weight with an excellent drape. The fine threads are set at approximately 21 ends per inch in the warp and weft. All fiber is handspun from silk cocoons–the silk worm fed on the leaves of the Tapia tree.
Rasty created this unique, exquisite silk scarf. She is a member of the spinners and weavers of Federation Sahalandy. Sahalandy launched in 2006 and is made up of seven weaving cooperatives located throughout the surrounding communities of Fandriana, in the mountain area of Sahdrandahy, Madagascar.
