Knotted Silk Buttons
The women of the artisan cooperatives in Sefrou, Morocco make these handspun silk, hand-knotted buttons, a technique and skill used for traditional clothing. In 2000, the Sefrou Women’s Silk Button Cooperative was formed under the Golden Buttons nonprofit and given the name Cherries after the town’s symbol and the style of buttons made there.
These buttons are glowing little gems. String them in a mixed array by themselves or add beads to create jewelry. Embellish cloth or add to a collar/neck edge. Or simply admire the exquisite handskill that went into each one’s making.
