Purple with Brilliant-Stripes Silk Scarf

This handwoven fine silk scarf, designed by Carol Cassidy of Lao Textiles in Vientiane, is exquisitely rich in color and detailed finishing. Produced at her northern Cambodian studio, the collection of striped 100% silk scarves are expertly dyed, woven, and finished by hand. This one is purple with 5 1/8″ borders of 1/8″ multi-colored weft-wise twill stripes alternating with 1/8″ purple stripes; all woven on a black warp. It’s an absolute jewel of an accessory.

This project contributes to sustainable income for the artisans, who are primarily women, some of whom are land mine survivors, disabled, or have lost their husbands due to the land mines. With the income from the project, the community has built homes, added clean water, and put their children through school.
