Rusty and Natural Wild Silk Scarf
This plain-weave wrap is handwoven of tightly-banded natural-colored warp stripes and open-weave rust-colored wide stripes. The weft is a variegated natural and brown woven in a loose and tight striping pattern giving an effect of ghostly weft stripes and subtle over-all grid pattern. It’s a light-weight shawl with excellent drape so it can be worn as a scarf too. All fiber is handspun from silk cocoons–the silk worm fed on the leaves of the Tapia tree.
Julia created this unique, exquisite silk shawl. She is a member of the spinners and weavers of Federation Sahalandy. Sahalandy launched in 2006 and is made up of seven weaving cooperatives located throughout the surrounding communities of Fandriana, in the mountain area of Sahdrandahy, Madagascar.
