This 100% alpaca pillow features the unique designs (Rosas tika,) from the Accha Alta community in the Peruvian highlands. The designs are based on the weaver who made it, but always influenced by traditional patterns.
The fabric for the cover is 100% natural alpaca which is hand woven on a backstrap loom. The edges are cleanly finished with a decorative tubular braid, nawi awapa, meaning “eye border”. The pillow backs are gray wool fabric with zippered closures; pillow insert not included.
This pillow is woven by Albertina Jalanoca, of Accha Alta, a member of the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco cooperative in the Peruvian Highlands.
The Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco (CTTC) is a Peruvian NGO with a mission to revive and preserve the cultural heritage of artisanal textiles. By educating people of these traditions through classes, exhibits, and trainings, CTTC also provides commercial opportunities. With this support, they help over 450 weavers from ten villages with a sustainable income which in turn supports their families and villages.
