Product Description

This crossbody bag is fabricated from a length of backstrap woven cloth, folded in the middle and joined at the sides. It is finished along the sides and the edges of the opening with a special Peruvian braid, nawi awapa. Tassels have been added at the base. The bag design consists of alternating plain and patterned vertical bands; the motifs are characteristic of the Chahuaytire region. It has a zippered closure and woven shoulder strap.

This bag was woven by Juana Cordova Sutta a member of Chahuaytire village and cooperative member of Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, located in the Peruvian Highlands of Cusco.

CTTC works with Quechua women and their families to ensure that their 2000-year old textile traditions continue to thrive, and to aid in economic development.
