This intricately woven, warp-faced pillow cover is handwoven by the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco cooperative weaving village of Chinchero, located in the Peruvian highlands of Cusco.
The yarn is tightly twisted wool and alpaca and is naturally dyed from local plants, flowers, barks, bugs, and roots. The edges are cleanly finished with a decorative tubular braid, nawi awapa, meaning “eye border”. The pillow backs are plain gray wool commercial fabric with zippered closure. Insert not included. Machine wash, lie flat.
The designs are based on the weaver who made it, but always influenced by traditional patterns. This weaving was created by Justina Auccacusi Quispe.
