Product Description

This large east west tote is a rainbow of woven stripes. The unique colors are achieved by natural dyes extracted from flowers, insects, barks and roots. It’s handwoven by the Chinchero CTTC weaving cooperative in the Peruvian Highlands of Cusco. The  stripes vary in width and in color pattern, based on the weaver who made it, making each bag unique, just like the rainbow.

The durable and finely handwoven alpaca/wool bag is fully lined, has an interior zipped pocket, a zippered closure plus strong straps for carrying plenty. The opening edge features a special braided border.

The colors of the rainbow can also be found throughout Chinchero textiles. Chinchero located 45 minutes outside of Cusco on the high plain Pampa de Anta, Chinchero looks out on stunning views where rainbows frequently arch across potato fields during the rainy season.

Artisan weaver Engracia Quispe Castro is a member of the Center for Traditional Textiles in Cusco, Peru. CTTC works with Quechua women and their families to ensure that their 2000-year old textile traditions continue to thrive, and to aid in economic development.
