Product Description

Shades of olive green provides the backdrop for the banded traditional patterning on this Peruvian pillow cover from Chinchero.  This pattern Q eswa is a symbol from agriculture representing a twisted rope made from a very strong Andean grass.  This pillow design is beautifully framed with hints of burgandy, rust, and blue in the patterning all achieved by natural dyes extracted from flowers, insects, barks and roots. Tassels frame the corners.

The fabric for the cover is made from a handspun blend of wool and alpaca which is hand woven on a backstrap loom. The solid grey wool pillow back includes zippered closure; pillow insert not included. Tassels decorate each corner.

The designs are based on the weaver who made it, but always influenced by traditional patterns. This pillow was woven by Antonio Alvarez Callanaupa, a member of the Chinchero village and cooperative member of Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, located in the Peruvian Highlands of Cusco.
