Product Description

She who wears this handwoven vest possesses the art of a Peruvian backstrap weaver.

This all natural wool-alpaca vest is a handsome blend of solid naturally-dyed bands of variegated sage green and cochineal with traditional design patterning from Chinchero. It is handwoven on a backstrap loom using naturally colored wools. All edges are cleanly finished with a decorative tubular braid, ñawi awapa, meaning “eye border”.

The back is a solid-colored wool fabric (see picture) It is fully lined in black and has one inside pocket. The chest is approx. 40 inches. The back length is about 22 inches or goes to the top of the hip for a woman of average height.

The weaver is from the village of Chinchero in the Peruvian highlands. Chinchero is a member village of CTTC, the Center for Traditional Textile of Cusco.
