Blending traditional backstrap weaving with contemporary design, this Guatemalan women’s cooperative has created a winning combination for this toiletry bag.
It’s handwoven of cotton, lined with a water-resistant fabric, and zips closed; stylishly finished with suede base and leather handles. The base fabric is deep blue with cream accents and multi-color splashes of dots. Since it’s slightly larger than a normal toiletry bag, it can double as purse.
Y’abal is a social enterprise in the highlands of Guatemala that partners with indigenous women’s cooperatives to promote the art of backstrap weaving and create a handwoven collection inspired by Mayan traditions.
