Handwoven of 100% Laotian silk, this eggplant-purple fabric has depth and strength, yet it is light-weight with a medium drape. The black warp threads are dyed with phay which has been fermented in mud for three nights. The dark purple is from fangdeng (Caesalpinia sappan) which has been fermented in mud for 2 nights. Constructed in plain weave, the very fine black warp is set widely enough to showcase the rich purple eri silk weft. The natural variations in weft thickness and the occasional slub produces a subtle weft-wise grain. The fabric is suitable for interior decor and also for clothing like light-weigh jackets and lined vests. Hand wash the fabric in cold water and air dry.
The fabric is sold by the yard.
