Blending traditional and contemporary Mayan design, this Guatemalan women’s group embroiders rust, purple and cream cotton into a striking bag.
Using traditional Mayan geometric designs from the communities of Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan in Guatemala, the front is embroidered of fine cotton on a woven cloth. The stylish design features leather straps, a suede base and sides. The sides expand as needed and the magnetic snap buttons on the sides give it an attractive shape when holding less. Plus there’s an inside zipped pocket. The back is handwoven cotton in a deep red.
Y’abal is a social enterprise in the highlands of Guatemala that partners with indigenous women’s cooperatives to promote the art of backstrap weaving and create a handwoven collection inspired by Mayan traditions.
