In the High-Atlas Mountains of Morocco, some of the finest traditional rugs are woven by women from the Timnay Association. The weaver of this flat weave runner is Fatima Id Rahou, one of the younger weavers of this group. Fatima is drawn to lively colors, especially red and blue which are the primary colors of this handwoven beauty. She creates as she weaves, not knowing the overall design allowing each small motif to build one upon another.
Note: The images show each half of the runner and a detail shot. The runner is 84″ long x 26″ wide. The end of the rug is finished with a braided fringe while the top edge has a twined beginning.
The Timnay Association was founded in 2010 after an agreement was made between a group of women in the village of N’kob. The village of N’kob is located near Taznakht, a town known for its livestock and agriculture. These two activities contributed to making the town of Taznakht and the surrounding area well known for its quality natural handmade traditional products, thanks to the availability of natural wool and plants and other raw materials.
