Product Description

This traditional handwoven cotton runner from weavers in Myanmar has a sturdy warp face weave structure, and a sophisticated geometric design in the central panel. Short lengths of pattern weft float on the surface on the right side only, creating a distinct front and back to the fabric. The ends of the runner are hemstitched and the fringe is twisted and plied.

Yoyamay is a textile arts gallery in Yangon, Myanmar. It now supports about 200  Chin and Karen weavers who work at home or in small groups, helping them to develop products and find markets for their work. Most of the weavers are women who produce products as supplementary income and fit the activity in between family and farming responsibilities. A typical runner may take 30 to 50 hours to weave.
