This crossbody bag is fabricated from a length of backstrap woven cloth, folded in the middle and joined at the sides. It’s finished along the sides and top edges of the opening with a special Peruvian braid, nawi awapa. Tassels have been added at the bottom. The bag design consists of natural-colored striped bands with patterned accent bands, the motifs characteristic of the Chahuaytire region.
This bag was woven by Edith Huaman Sutta, a member of the Chahuaytire village and cooperative member of Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, located in the Peruvian Highlands of Cusco.
