Horizontal bands of traditional motifs representing mountain and floral designs are hand woven in beautiful natural browns, grays, creams, and black. This handsome pillow cover is made on a backstrap loom with special emphasis on the traditional patterning from Chahuaytire in the Peruvian Highlands of Cusco.
The pillow front is woven in all natural coloring from alpaca and sheep’s fleece. The pillow backs are plain commercial fabric with zippered closures. Pillow insert not included.
These pillows were woven by Demetria Chicchi Huamán, an artisan member of the Center for Traditional Textiles in Cusco, Peru. CTTC works with Quechua weavers to ensure that their 2000-year old textile traditions continue to thrive, and to aid in economic development.
