With its bright multi-colored stripes, this simple shoulder bag is a striking accent for evening or day. The central decorative band has traditional motifs from the Chahuaytire-Pisac area in the Peruvian highlands. The unlined bag has a zippered closure and it is embellished at the bottom with 3 evenly spaced small tassels. The 1″-wide shoulder strap is designed with stripes or traditional motifs. The edges of the bag are finished with the traditional ñawi-awapa braid.
This bag was woven by Porfirio Ylla Ccoyo, a member of the Chahuaytire village and cooperative member of Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, located in the Peruvian Highlands of Cusco.
CTTC works with Quechua women and their families to ensure that their 2000-year old textile traditions continue to thrive, and to aid in economic development.
