This rich naturally-dyed and handwoven pillow from Chinchero showcases a combination of motifs set against two indigo bands. Some are geometric shapes, others inspired by spiders, agricultural implements and water find their way into the artisan-designed woven bands. The deep color of wine is dyed with cochineal red. All color is achieved by natural dyes extracted from insects, leaves, and roots.
The pillow front is backstrap woven from alpaca and wool fleece. The pillow back is a plain gray wool fabric with zippered closures. Pillow insert not included.
This pillow was woven by a member of the Chinchero village and cooperative member of Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, located in the Peruvian Highlands of Cusco.
