Product Description

Peruvian women use these beautiful cloths as mantas, or shawls, but we find them ideally suited for interior decor. Used as table accents or wall art, they will add a warm and special touch to your home.

The intricate fabrics are handwoven on a backstrap loom and then joined to make a square cloth. The join is hidden by embroidery, and the four edges of the cloth are finished with the traditional ñawi awapa braid trim. The wool and alpaca yarn is naturally dyed from local plants, flowers, barks, bugs, and roots. The motifs are traditional to this weaving village, Chahuaytire.

This manta is woven by Felix Quipse Ylla. He is a member of the Chahuaytire village cooperative which is part of the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, located in the Peruvian highlands of Cusco.
