This crossbody bag is fabricated from a length of backstrap woven cloth, folded in the middle and joined at the sides. It is finished along the sides and the edges of the opening with a special Peruvian braid, nawi awapa. Tassels have been added at the base. This bag includes a long (24″) from shoulder strap and zipped closure. The bag design consists of alternating plain and patterned vertical bands; the motifs are characteristic of the Chahuaytire region. The naturally-dyed colors are rich reflecting a rainbow of color.
This bag was woven by Sabina Huaman Ylla, a member of the Chahuaytire village and cooperative member of Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, located in the Peruvian Highlands of Cusco.
