This ProTeje collection table runner is backstrap woven using brocade techniques and heritage designs adapted from traditional dress. It’s handwoven of natural cotton on ecru with brown, green and ochre designs.
This table runner can also be displayed as a textile art piece. It’s elegantly finished with a twisted and plied fringe on each end.
ProTeje, which means “for the weavers”, is a project of the Museo Ixchel in Guatemala City. They are dedicated to maintaining the production of high-quality indigenous textiles and offering a means of economic support to Guatemalan weavers. Since its birth in 1994, it has grown to support 300 weavers from nine departments and twenty-four communities.
