This ProTeje collection set of six placements is backstrap woven by Felisa Valey, a member of the San Miguel Chicay village, using brocade techniques and natural cotton in ecru with green and brown accents. These exquisite placemats showcase traditional symbols woven into the cloth.
The placemats are finished with a simple fringe (twisted and plied) on each end. Price is for six placemats.
ProTeje, which means “for the weavers”, is a project of the Museo Ixchel in Guatemala City. They are dedicated to maintaining the production of high-quality indigenous textiles and offering a means of economic support to Guatemalan weavers. Since its birth in 1994, it has grown to support 300 weavers from nine departments and twenty-four communities.
