Product Description

This tote is an all-natural beauty.

Horizontal bands of alpaca wool in beautiful natural  browns, tan, white, and black frame a horizontal band of diamond motifs. Woven by artisans from the CTTC village of Accha Alta, Peru, each bag varies slightly according to the person who made it.

Fully lined, the bag is well-constructed and has an interior zippered pocket and a zippered closure. The flat base, about 11″ long x 3″ wide, gives the bag additional structure. Traditional ñawi awapa sling braids have been innovatively employed as shoulder straps: the flat-woven portion of the sling helps to comfortably distribute the weight of the bag.  Straps are 16″ to shoulder. Soft and pliable, yet sturdy and well-formed, the bag is a pleasure to carry.

Backstrap woven by Demilia Mamani Quispe, a member of the Accha Alta village and cooperative member of Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, located in the Peruvian Highlands of Cusco. The Center for Traditional of Cusco (CTTC) aids Quechua-speaking artisans in preserving Peruvian Inca textiles and weaving traditions, as well as in community networking and marketing.
