Over three decades, as their art becomes prized possessions of connoisseurs around the world, Surayia and the artisans overcome their hardships with needle and thread, stitch by stitch. Surayia Rahman will receive the Begum Rokeya Padak, a Bangladeshi National Award presented by the Prime Minister, on Dec 9, 2017. Begum Rokeya is a Bangladeshi national honour conferred on individual women for their exceptional achievement. The award is given by the Ministry of Women & Children Affairs, Government of Bangladesh. The award recognizes the pioneering contribution of an individual in empowering women and raising women’s issues.
