Handspun of local wild silk in the mountains of Madagascar, the women artisans weave one-of-a-kind scarves and shawls. This scarf is soft and elegant when worn, the wild silk adding a subtle beauty that only it can give.
The nubby texture of the wild silk is a hallmark of the products woven in this remote community. The wine coloring is naturally dyed from local plants. The pattern balances between plain weave and lacy leno weave creating a very soft draping scarf.
Federation Sahalandy launched in 2006 to restore wild silk culture and traditional hand spinning and hand weaving. The Federation is made up of seven spinning and weaving cooperatives located throughout the surrounding communities of Fandriana, in the mountain area of Sahdrandahy, Madagascar. This scarf was handwoven by artisan Ralouise.
